L’anno 2004 è finito con la tragedia dello tsunami che ha colpito l’Asia. Eravamo tranquilli, partecipavamo ai “riti” che accompagnano le festività e, improvvisamente, la televisione ci ha informati di un evento che ogni momento aggiornava la terribile contabilità delle vittime, sino ad arrivare a una cifra che supera le 200mila.
Fine anno 2005, sembra una coincidenza che i fine d’anno debbano portare qualche notizia negativa. Abbiamo assistito a un evento per altri motivi impressionante: lo sconvolgimento del settore bancario, terminato con le dimissioni del governatore della Banca d’Italia, Antonio Fazio. Sono emerse cose incredibili, quali le truffe perpetrate ai danni dei risparmiatori e il conseguente arresto di Giampiero Fiorani, presidente della Bpi (ex Banca Popolare di Lodi); scalate a banche in odore di insider trading (ultima in ordine di tempo la comunicazione al presidente di Unipol, Giovanni Consorte, anche lui dimissionario) e una confusione di ruoli, in cui sovente non si capisce più bene chi sia il controllato e chi il controllante. Possiamo però tranquillizzarci: il fine d’anno ci ha portato anche notizie di pratiche dubbie in altri settori: esemplari le dimissioni di Sergio Billé, presidente di Confcommercio, una delle maggiori organizzazioni imprenditoriali del paese.
C’è stato un periodo, alcuni anni orsono, in cui pareva che tutto andasse bene; la fine d’anno riportava i risultati positivi dell’anno trascorso, situazioni piacevoli e prospettive solide. Ci troviamo ora ad affrontare il 2006 con un fardello di dubbi e un lumicino di speranza: piccola ripresa, piccole prospettive di crescita del turismo, piccoli miglioramenti internazionali. Saremo in grado di far crescere questi timidi segnali positivi?
È certo che molto dipenderà anche dalla situazione internazionale e, sicuramente, le notizie di questi giorni, con le tensioni sul gas proveniente dalla Russia, non sono un bel segnale. Non resta che affidarci una volta di più alla nostra creatività, volontà e… allo stellone che ci aiuta nei momenti di difficoltà.
What awaits in 2006?
The year 2004 ended with the tragedy of the tsunami hitting the coast of Asia. We were peacefully participating in the festivity rites, when the television suddenly informed us of the catastrophe, giving us a constant update on the death count, until reaching a figure of over 200,000.
The end of 2005; it seems a coincidence that year-ends have to come with some bad news. We have witnessed an event that – for different reasons – gave us a shock, too: the upheaval in the banking sector, leading to the resignation of Antonio Fazio, governor of the Bank of Italy. Incredible facts seem to have surfaced, such as the fraud against investors perpetrated by Giampiero Fiorani, President of BPI (former Banca Popolare di Lodi), who has been arrested; the acquisition of banks through operations under suspicion of insider trading (the latest case being the notice of investigation presented to Giovanni Consorte, Unipol’s President, who also has resigned) and a confusion of roles where it is sometimes difficult to make out who controls whom. Let us make no mistake: the year end has come with news about doubtful practices in other industries as well: see, for example, the resignation of Sergio Billé, President of Confcommercio, one of the largest entrepreneurs’ organisations in the country.
There was a period, a few years ago, when it seemed that everything was going well; the end of the year came with reports about positive results, pleasant situations and sound prospects. Now, we are facing 2006 with a heavy burden of doubts and a feeble spark of hope: a slight recovery, faint prospects of tourism growth, small international improvements. Are we going to be able to grow such timid favourable signals? A great deal will certainly depend on the international situation, and the news of these latest days, about the tensions over natural gas from Russia, is no good sign. Once again we can only resort to our own creativity, our determination and … appeal to the lucky star that helps us in moments of difficulty.
