Ed eccoci all’ultimo numero prima delle vacanze estive che, rispetto a quelle dell’anno precedente, hanno caratteristiche rovesciate.
L’anno scorso in questo periodo avevamo pressoché zero contagi, però eravamo preoccupati per l’autunno (e alla luce dei fatti con ragione), quest’anno invece abbiamo contagi in crescita ma siamo ottimisti sull’autunno (in considerazione principalmente delle vaccinazioni). Speriamo che il nostro attuale ottimismo sia premiato nei prossimi mesi da una ritrovata tranquillità e ripresa della socialità e delle attività economiche, principalmente nel comparto del turismo, uno dei più penalizzati.
Malgrado le recenti negative esperienze assistiamo però ancora ad atteggiamenti che dire malsani mi sembra riduttivo: mi riferisco ai festeggiamenti successivi alla vittoria dell’Italia del pallone al Campionato europeo. Purtroppo ci si lascia trascinare dalle emozioni e dopo un lungo periodo di restrizioni si vuole tornare a condividere momenti di gioia. Questo a livello personale è comprensibile ma cosa dire di chi, con responsabilità istituzionali, cavalcando la scia della popolarità, ha organizzato festeggiamenti con assembramento di folla, che ora noi tutti paghiamo con un incremento della diffusione del virus. E questo sarebbe già grave di suo, ma quello che colpisce maggiormente è che il contestato giro in pullman scoperto con a bordo i calciatori sia stato organizzato a dispetto delle indicazioni del Prefetto di Roma. La giustificazione: le autorità erano a conoscenza. Ma quali autorità? Sempre risposte generiche, nessuno se ne assume la responsabilità, mentre il vero titolare, il Prefetto, aveva dato parere negativo.
Al momento in cui scrivo, Roma ha il maggior sviluppo di casi Covid, speriamo si possa presto circoscrivere la diffusione prima dei Campionati del mondo del 2022, perché se dovessimo mai vincere anche quelli….
Intanto auguri di un buon agosto, con la speranza che dopo l’estate si possa finalmente scrivere la parola “fine” a questo periodo, con l’auspicio che sia servito per indurci a riflettere sui temi della socialità e dello sviluppo sostenibile.
Here we are, at our last issue before the summer holidays, which seem to be upside down compared with the previous year.
Last year, in this period, we were at almost zero new infections, but we were worrying about the coming autumn (with reason, as it later appeared). This year, on the contrary, we have growing numbers of infections, but we are optimistic about the autumn (mainly because of the vaccination campaign). Hopefully our optimism will be rewarded in the coming months by a new peace of mind and the recovery of social and economic activities, mainly in the business of tourism, one of the most penalised by the pandemic.
In spite of our recent negative experiences, however, we are still witnessing behaviours that are unhealthy to say the least: I am talking about the celebrations following Italy’s victory in the European Football Championship. Unfortunately, we get carried away by emotions and, after a long period of restrictions, we feel like sharing our moments of joy. This is quite understandable on a personal level, but what about those people who carry institutional responsibilities and, on the wave of popularity, organised celebrations with mass gatherings, which we are now paying for in terms of an increase in the spread of COVID-19? This is quite serious in itself, but what strikes us even more is that the much criticised open bus tour of the Italian players was organised in spite of contrary instructions from the Prefect of Rome. The justification was that the authorities were informed. But which authorities? We only receive vague replies, nobody takes responsibility for what happened, while the person truly in charge, the Prefect, had issued a negative opinion.
At the time when I am writing, Rome has the highest increase in COVID-19 cases; let’s hope the spread can be soon contained before the World Championship of 2022, because if we should be the winners again…
In the meantime, I wish you a good month of August, with the hope that, after the summer, we will see the end of this difficult period, having learnt that we should reflect on the issues of social behaviours and sustainable development.
