Siamo ottimisti oltre ogni limite?

We are back, some of us still with sand on their toes, some with unmelted snow on their skis, others with the scent of vin brulé from the festive markets in their nostrils… The many experiences of the holidays are now giving way to a less pleasant reality, that of everyday life.
We get up in the morning hoping that the morning news are comforting and help us face the first few days of the year with optimism; unfortunately, it is not so: we hear about a succession of conflicts, tensions, problems.
However, we must look ahead and try to identify the positive aspects that are certainly present in our country. Maybe because I live and work in Milan, an active and dynamic city, I feel less affected by the oppressive climate reported from other parts of Italy; even the fog that is shrouding Lombardy this morning cannot delete the awareness that, despite all the difficulties we encounter, we are still a country with great potential.
Am I optimistic beyond all limits? I don’t know. I see, however, that at least in tourism there is dynamism. New realities are cropping up to make use of all the existing potentialities. Historic or abandoned buildings are finding a new life; for example, two considerable investments by Ferragamo and Cipriani are converting important properties in the city centre, while in numerous locations there are projects to reorganise the too many facilities that are no longer adequate for modern tourism. International companies are looking at our country with interest, which cannot but provide a stimulus for our existing assets.
2020, I must say, is a nice number, round, simple, easy to write. Should we take it as a symbol and make it into a positive signal? In the coming months we will find out if it is, but, for the moment, let’s at least be contented with the figure.
